Moses exemplifies a very gentlemanly and knightly conduct. He stood for helping the weak, and he was bold and strong. An excellent example for every man! Abraham teaches skills in logical reasoning and debate, which we now call Socratic dialogue. He was a clear-headed and excellent debater. I think his greatest achievement is that he independently deduced the monotheistic concepts from his own logical inquiries when he was young. This is what makes him distinguished. Adam teaches us to repent if one commits a mistake. Jonah is the case of ultimate perseverance, resilience, and patience. Surviving inside a whale, it must have been some ordeal he went through!! Job - patience in adversity and disease. His story teaches that whatever happens, however adverse the circumstances are, if you are connected to God, affliction would only increase your faith. Joseph embodies self-restraint, and honour, and teaches a spirit of forgiveness. David and Solomon - wisdom of the kings, they are examples for the Rulers. Powerful and grand yet humble towards God. Noah - Persistence and dedication to duty. For 950 years, he did his job regardless of the results. He also teaches us to prepare for the upcoming challenges, and be ready for the 'rainy day'. Jesus - awe, charisma, and compassion ! Shuaib - gives lessons in economic and social justice. Muhammad - an ordinary person, transformed, empowered, and exalted through Quran. This is his message! How he carried on with his responsibility of delivering Quran over two or so decades despite all the wars and adversities is very inspiring.. A fantastic man !

One's experience of sin and then coming back from it may ultimately be very empowering and spiritually strengthening, because you can come out of it more robust and sound, after having learnt the value of virtue and develop an abhorrence for sin. Your account of sins now becomes a deterrence for sins, therefore acts as virtue. Hence your soul can gain more than originally if you hadn't done the sin. This is my opinion. The verse you quoted is very interesting!

How can these two verses be reconciled with each other's meanings:
[9:28] O ye who believe! Truly the ‘mushriks’ (polytheists) are ‘Najas’ (impure, unclean, etc.); so let them not after this year of theirs approach the Sacred Mosque.
[22:27] And call out to mankind with the Pilgrimage, they will come to you walking and on every transport, they will come from every deep enclosure.
Because many from the "mankind" are mushrik, as we know from 12:106 as well as from a posteriori.
Please give your opinion.

The Quran has no specific holidays to mention.
However, I do not see that negating any of the holidays that are around as long as you do not participate in any of the idol worship associated.

Yeah, it seems fine to have a cultural festival, and maybe it was the Prophet himself who actually had initiated the Eid when he felt there were not enough festivities for his people...! And subsequently it was made into a religious festival. Nothing wrong in celebrating Eid and any local festivals that you like but they don't come in the ambit of religion. We don't want to be told to have fun in life, we already should know it :-) What I like about Eid is friends n family getting in touch with each other, which they normally wouldn't do so carefully for rest of the year, and everyone in the family gets the opportunity to ask after everyone else. In the sub-Continent there is a cultural festival associated with Spring, called Basant - but usually there is too much vulgarity involved in it!

It is quite plain and simple, and we don't have any evidence of God having a personal name, and even if He has one (which I strongly doubt), He hasn't told us. If that was the case God would have introduced Himself with His proper name in all the Scriptures but that is not the case. Allah, YHWH, Bhagwan, Ahura Mazda, Shangdi, and who knows how many more, have been used in different cultures to name God and are found in their corresponding Scriptures.

Salaam.
BATH means washing the whole body thoroughly, which should include the head and hair. In my understanding (from simple reason and common sense), when I'm supposed to take a BATH to fulfill the commandment I should wash sufficiently well all the parts of my body so that I FEEL it was a bath, not just ablution or wetting the body.
I find it so ridiculous about sunni imams telling people how to bath and what steps to follow, and that if a hair-length place remains dry the bath is 'rejected'.... !!!

Well put OPF, totally agree.
I suppose as soon as you are labelled with a name such a Quranist then you are liable to get sub-set labels appear after that like:
True Quranist
50% Quranist
Agressive Quranist
Passive Quranist
Master Quranist
part hadith Quranist
etc etc etc .... unlimited divisions of a particular sect or label.

Being "quranist" is just one of the attributes of a muslim (not 'Muslim' with a capital M), just like a muslim also possesses attributes as peacemaker, virtuous, rational, just, etc. The essence of all these attributes is the same: Truth and loving Truth. Islam as a natural amalgamation of all these supreme qualities has been lost and forgotten in the world, and those who endeavor to revive its spirit sometimes need to identify themselves with these sub-attributes to proclaim that they represent not tradition but something else which is deeper and may need attention, it is like issuing a challenge. It is this need of announcement that muslims may decide to identify themselves with these additional attributes in a specific environment, such as being 'peacemaker' in a world of violence and conflict and thus emphasizing what needs to be prioritized according to God's law, being rational or free-thinker in a world preoccupied with dogma, being quranist among followers of pagan books etc... These descriptions can be used to emphasize the context, and there is no harm in them in my understanding. The essence is what that remains important.
